The overall purpose of the class is to develop a carpenters’ ability to select
and use means and methods for working in High Hazard Facilities (HHF), specifically petroleum refineries where dissimilar trades and crafts work near each other. Fundamentals of petroleum refining processes, refining industry safety overview and awareness, and risks associated with each trade, or multiple trades, will be covered. Three major conceptual schemes comprise the focus of this course: interdependency and craft relationships, risk analysis and mitigation from multiple trade perspectives, and job sequencing and control. Although best practices and industry standards are emphasized, views on technique by class participants will be considered as well.
