Floor layers/workers install carpeting, hardwood flooring, soft tiles and linoleum-type products made of vinyl and rubber for interior systems. They cut, fit and install hardwood flooring and various types of underlayment to ensure smooth, level surfaces for the finished floor. They also scribe, cut, fit layout and seam tile and sheet stock in a variety of patterns. Floor layers/workers are also skillful in cutting, binding, sewing and installing carpet. While they work from architects’ and interior designers’ specifications, they must also be good at estimating materials and doing layout. One of a floor layer/worker’s specialties is creating geometrical designs in floors, which sometimes requires the installation of inlaid pieces.
I like working with different tools, building things and getting dirty. Being a Carpenter is an exciting career for the long term.
