Brothers' Keeper

The Southwest Mountain States Regional Council of Carpenters, in partnership with the Training Fund, offers Brothers’ Keeper to assist disadvantaged groups looking to improve their lives through hard work and dedication to a career in the carpentry trade. Through carpentry training and job placement assistance, the program helps educate and build effective skilled trade-workers.

Bridging Outstanding Opportunities with Tradeswomen Skills (B.O.O.T.S.)

B.O.O.T.S. is an innovative, pre-apprenticeship program for women interested in becoming a Carpenters’ apprentice. The program is designed to encourage the recruitment and employment of women in the Carpenters’ trades. It does so through a combination of female-orientated training and dedicated job skills development.

Sisters in the Brotherhood

Women are an integral part of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC). To support the thousands of women who work hard each day to help strengthen the union, the Sisters in the Brotherhood (SIB) Committee helps promote and secure training for women looking to improve their craft and leadership skills while also advocating for women’s issues. The SIB also runs a mentoring program, sets up networking events and provides additional resources for women to learn and grow within the UBC.

Helmets to Hardhats

A national nonprofit organization, Helmets to Hardhats works with active-duty and retired military service members and National Guard and National Reserve members who are looking for employment in the construction industry. Helmets to Hardhats partners with the Training Fund to connect the Fund with military veterans who are transitioning to civilian life and considering a carpentry career. Together, the Training Fund and Helmets to Hardhats are helping give back to service members who dedicated their lives to protect our country. Program participants receive full funding once they are accepted into the Fund’s Apprenticeship Program.

Job Corps

The Training Fund works with the U.S. Department of Labor to facilitate the Job Corps program. This program serves men and women age 16 and over who are at risk of failing school and falling into poverty. Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, the program helps students learn the necessary skills to navigate life and grow as an individual while also preparing them for a career. As a pre-Apprenticeship program, Job Corps works with the Training Fund to give students entry into the carpentry trade and teach them valuable skills so they can start a career as a union carpenter.

Career Connections

Offered by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) and created by the Carpenters International Training Fund, this program introduces high school students to all aspects of carpentry. Through a curriculum developed by UBC carpenters with field and teaching experience, students in schools across North America get a first-hand look into building a lifelong career in the field of residential and commercial carpentry. The program provides hands-on experience and training in fundamental and advanced carpentry skills, including how to use tools properly, important safety standards and what employers look for in carpenter candidates.
